Reflections | Naz Miljanic from Same Time Tomorrow

Naz is one of the co-founders and creative mind behind Same Time Tomorrow. Having turned her passion for heirloom-quality tablescapes into an everyday luxury, she has crafted a brand that makes effortless entertaining a delight for everyone. We chatted to Naz about life, career, fashion, and of course, jewels.

1. How would you describe what you do?

In essence, the brand Same Time Tomorrow aims to blend curated aesthetic and affordability. We don’t subscribe to trends but try to take elements of modern aesthetics and create a classic approach. We do this by using classic fabrics and only natural fibres such as cotton and linen and ensure we are producing sustainable and eco-friendly products with latest certifications. I am 1 of 3 sisters who make up the remaining co-founders of the brand and I look after the creative elements of the product and brand as well as design and sourcing.

2. What did you do before this, and what was the turning point in deciding to launch Same Time Tomorrow?

I have worked in global logistics for the duration of my career since University where I studied a Business degree. Work has brought me into the wonderful region of Asia and from here I have experienced the proximity to makers that made my creative ideas a possibility. Living in Asia has meant it has been difficult to find items that I have wanted for my own home and as such Same Time Tomorrow was a concept that I felt I would be able to solve for myself and others.

3. Tell us, how do you typically start your day? Do you have any daily rituals?

I have the benefit of working with my sisters each day and we typically stocktake the most recent business development opportunities. We reside on different timezones so I am fortunate to wake up to work already being kicked off! We usually catch up at the start of everyday with a call to sync which I do on my daily walk. Of course, no day can be started without a proper coffee so any true Melbournite will know that coffee is not just a ritual but an essential!

4. What inspires your products, and what is your favourite piece from your latest collection?

The ability to create so many different looks and combinations of our products inspires future ranges and product design. There is an art in creating ranges that suit everyones palette and design eye, but can blend seamlessly together. The inspiration of the product is to continue to see how much variety can be achieved with the range and how easy it is to style any combinations together to create a truly bespoke setting. I have loved the bow design napkins which were actually initially designed for my sister and co-founder Sussie’s baby shower - a bow for a beau. That product and design will always be a little bit special.

5. When you have some downtime away from work, where is your favourite place to go?

I have a downtime ritual of getting a coffee and visiting the flower farms to wander around and select blooms which I then take home to try my hand at being a florist. I have always loved having beautiful elements around the home that make you feel special in your own space. One of the amazing parts about living in Asia is getting flowers that are harder to access in Australia and that always feels really luxurious!

6. What would be your advice to aspiring Founders or anyone starting their own business?

I believe hard work and consistency are the only two things you need to see any plan into fruition. I’ve always been taught that there are no short cuts to success and I believe that wholeheartedly. Waking up with a consistent mindset and ability to execute even one step at a time is progress. It is progress over perfection and that goes for all things in life. The other advice I would give is to lean into your own instincts and to not put out anything you don’t feel inherently confident about. People are subscribing to your DNA and what your creativity drives so we shouldn’t be afraid to authentically represent ourselves. After all, being uniquely you is a super power - there are no two versions of us. Isn’t that a cool thought?

7. As a Co-Founder how would you describe your style in three words?

Contemporary, considered and comfortable.

8. Do you have a style icon or current muse?

At the risk of sounding like every other fan girl, I love and adore Athena Calderone for her diversity (who can cook, design, create and style all at once to such a high standard!) and also of course her own personal style.

9. How does jewellery influence your mood or personal style?

I am a fan of a simple outfit that can be elevated by the use of jewellery. I often will plan an outfit around a piece of jewellery to showcase it the way it should. It influences my daily style as I will look to adjust and balance the elements with my outfits.

10. How do you incorporate jewellery to elevate your everyday outfits? Do you have any special tips or pieces that you rely on to add that perfect finishing touch?

The only tip I have that I subscribe to myself is sometimes less is more. I tend to only wear earrings if I am not wearing a necklace, or vice versa. I think that subtle additions of jewellery can add just the right amount of ‘something’ rather than everything all at once.

11. Do you have a favourite piece of jewellery, or one that evokes a special memory?

I don’t have a single favourite piece because actually every item of jewellery I own has been gifted to me during the course of my life. Whether it was my wedding day, first mothers day, birthdays or anniversaries. I think that is the special part… that every single piece of jewellery I own has a meaningful moment behind it that I can almost create a timeline of memory and moments. I think jewellery is one of the most nostalgic gifts you can buy someone as it stands the test of time.

12. What would be your ‘Naz’ curated edit from the EF range?

I am a diamond girl and so the Wave Diamond Earring paired with a custom tennis bracelet I saw on the instagram feed recently would be my two forever icon EF pieces. I think the ability to mix ready-to-wear with custom is such an amazing part of the EF offering and one that will allow me to shop time and time again.
